Torrox
Costa
Torrox
is actually divided into two parts, the upper village nestling in
the mountains with its Moorish influence and the lower village (Torrox
Costa), nearer the sea reflecting its Roman origin. More recent sites
of historical interest include the sixteenth century convent and the
imposing eighteenth century parish church.
Torrox has Neolithic, Roman and Moorish origins and was an important
Roman factory town and extensive ruins have been excavated and restored
including baths, a luxury villa and a necropolis. Torrox reached the
height of its prosperity during the Moorish period due to its pivotal
role in the silk trade between Granada and Near Eastern cities such
as Baghdad and Damascus.
Torrox Costa boasts 9km of beach and many of these have been awarded
the Blue Flag.
Torrox is an ideal base for exploring this fascinating region with
its mountains, national parks, and famous old historic towns. The
town itself offers a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants.
Local activities include golf, biking, hiking in the local countryside,
horse riding in the Sierras, water sports, or touring the local villages
to sample their wines and cuisine.
Nearest Airport - Malaga approx 45 minutes drive
