Canillas
de Albaida
The
origins of Canillas de Albaida was in a 13th century Arabic farmstead
belonging to Vélez-Málaga which received the name of Albaida
(white), not for the white houses, as we don’t know if they were
that colour before, but for the abundance of white flowers which according
to the chronicles, surrounded the area.
It is situated some 576 metres above sea-level, between the Sierra de
Tejeda and the Sierra de Almijara, in Malaga. Only three kilometres
from Competa, the easiest way to reach it is from Algarrobo Costa, to
the East of Torre del Mar.
Canillas
de Albaida is a typical mountain village in aspect, and is essentially
Spanish, being quieter than its neighbouring village of Competa. Local
amenities include shops, bars, restaurants, hotel, bank, pharmacy, school.
Nearest airport – Malaga (approx one hour drive)
Coast – 25 minute drive
